Rabbi Ruven Barkan's experience in Uganda

(Ed note: This email was sent from Rabbi Ruven Barkan, who is spending time living in the Jewish community in Uganda.)

Hello Family,

I am finally sending e-mail.  It has been a real pleasure being away from technology, and immersing into village life. I have spent an hour trying to send pictures on this dial up connection...ughh the frustrations of the blessings of internet. I have plenty of pictures and video to show of the life and culture here, but it will have to wait till I get back.

I am fulfilling my goals for this trip: being immersed in a completely different culture, but building a bridge through our Jewish connection.

I wish I could expand more on the experience, but I am exhausted, and it is a monumental task to try to capture and share a glimpse of this experience. I am journaling everyday. I will try to communicate by e-mail in shorter and more regular spurts now that I am more adjusted here -- thank God I haven't experienced any sickness of any kind, and I am enjoying the food.
